"Red Hot and Green" Star Gives Cool Advice at Art of Living Green Fest

On January 17th, Carter Oosterhouse visited the Art of Living Green festival at the A.E. Backus Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida, to remind people of the effect they have on the environment as consumers and speak to them about ways to make their homes more environmentally friendly. "Sometimes we forget how interconnected everything is," he said.

The Art of Living Green event featured exhibits and presentations on environmentally conscious living. During his presentation, Oosterhouse praised a woman who uses a solar heater for her pool. He said that lowering hot water heaters just two degrees saves 500 pounds of carbon emissions. "It's little baby steps," he said. "What we have to curb is really not that much if we basically pace it out."

Carter's HGTV show "Red Hot & Green" will build its second "green" home this April in the town of Tradition in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
