Carter’s Kids in Partnership with Wade’s World Unveils “The Big Assist,” a Beautification Project of the Turnkey Boys & Girls Club in Dallas - NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND Fri, February 12th

NEW YORK, NY - Thursday, Jan. 21st 2010

Carter Oosterhouse, host of HGTV’s Carter Can and founder of the non-profit organization, Carter’s Kids announced today the production and unveiling of a collaborative appropriately titled, “The Big Assist.” For the project Oosterhouse teamed up with Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade and 500 children that are active members of the Turnkey Boys and Girls Club in Greater Dallas to ASSIST in the planning, developing and executing of an internal and external beautification project for the club. The unveiling will take place the Friday of NBA All Star Weekend, February 12th from 4-6PM at The Turnkey Boys & Girls Club located at 6539 Treetop Lane in Dallas and will be attended by Carter Oosterhouse, Dwayne Wade, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Mayor Tom Leppert and hundreds of Boys & Girls Club members from the Greater Dallas area.

Carter’s Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and promoting awareness of fitness and self-esteem for America’s youth. The purpose is to increase the activity level of kids by building and developing community parks and playgrounds in their neighborhoods. The kids then have the opportunity to take an active part in building up their community by using, sharing and caring for these public spaces.

“We completely transformed the Boys & Girls Club which is located in a low income neighborhood and serves up to 150 kids a day,” said Carter. “I grew up building things at a very early age--there is no greater sense of satisfaction when you see something that you’ve built being enjoyed by others. The kids actively worked on the project and created a connection and real sense of ownership and pride in the space.”

Carter’s Kids instigated the project with the external task of installing new playground equipment and landscaping and teamed up with Dwayne Wade’s Wade’s World Foundation to redesign the teen room and gymnasium. “I never wanted basketball to define who I am and what I am supposed to become,” said Wade “which is why I founded an organization to help kids in their communities.” “I am thrilled for the unveiling and hope that the fact that it will take place during NBA All Star Weekend will bring much needed attention to three very important organizations striving to make a difference in the lives of children and their communities.”
